Our Employment Assessment Standards: Recruitment, Selection & Training Processes
PPSL undertakes a rigorous assessment and interviewing process of all applicants to ensure the best fit to the organization’s standards. Our process includes the following:
- An initial screening and selection process based on the applicant’s education, skills, abilities, appearance, behaviour, attitude, behaviours, grooming, and cleanliness. It is this first screening that determines if a candidate moves to the next stage.
- Candidates must provide the mandatory documents to facilitate the employment process.
- A basic aptitude test evaluates the candidate’s literacy and language skills.
- An advanced aptitude test evaluates the candidate’s ability to write reports and complete post diaries, pocket diaries and station diaries. This is followed by background and previous employment reference checks.
- Thereafter, the applicant is interviewed by the Operations Team who assesses the candidate’s skills and competencies and assess the individual’s disposition.
- After successfully completing all components of the assessment, candidates are enrolled in Training. During the programme trainees are closely monitored for any conduct that is inappropriate for an Officer, or if there are any areas that require additional review.
As part of the training programme, candidates also receive training from industry professionals in the areas of defensive training, customer service, and health & safety. At the end of the training, the candidates write an examination, and once successful they are invited to join the PPSL Team.
Discipline & Conduct
Discipline is the bedrock of effective security service. Therefore, rules and regulations form an essential part of the PPSL Officer’s contractual employment agreements. Violations of the Company’s regulations will result in officers being held accountable and disciplinary action administered as necessary.
Psychological Evaluation
PPSL adheres to the legal requirement mandated by the Ministry of National Security that all persons who carry firearms are subjected to a psychological evaluation; this helps to ensure that those charged with this responsibility meet the required standards. Additionally, Employees are also monitored using strict drug screening procedures.

Security Officer Employment Requirements
- Two (2) Passport Size Photos
- Certificates (Originals & Copies) Birth Certificate
- National Photo ID (ID Card/Drivers’ Permit)
- Proof of current address
- A valid (not older than 6 mths.) Police Certificate of Good Character
- Must be a national of Trinidad and Tobago or authorized to work in T&T
- Adult (18 years+)
- Two recent recommendation letters/employment references
- Previous security experience would be considered an asset
- Pass a medical/physical examination
- Pass drug screening
- Submit to security operations training
- Submit to the background and previous employment reference checks
- Ability to work daylight/night-time shifts
